RACING TEAM MILESTONES

Pang Yok You (YY Pang)

YY Pang has become a household name among Malaysian racing fraternity or even other ASEAN countries. The YYPANG name started humbly in 1975 when Mr Pang Yok You (Y.Y.Pang) threw himself into the racing arena as a privateer.

Mr. Pang quickly stamped his authority in the local racing scene and by 1978, he had already won two races and finished third in another race which is a creditable achievement for a privateer. He remained as the top privateer for another two more years, posting numerous podium finishes on various machinery.

Mr Pang's break came in 1981 when he joined Hong Leong Yamaha Team. The difficult days of struggling financially to stay racing came to an end signaling the dawning of an illustrious career under the wings of Hong Leong Yamaha. With competitive machinery he entrenched himself as top class competitor taking on local as well as foreign riders fearlessly.

Between 1981 until his eventual retirement from active riding in 1990, he had notched about twenty 1st place finishes, eighteen 2nd and sixteen 3rd place finishes, a total of 54 podium finishes.

In addition to his personal achievements, in the span of 12 years of racing, he has ridden and worked on machines ranging from 80cc underbone machines to 500cc Grand Prix thoroughbreds.

Mr Pang's tremendous wealth of mechanical and riding experience proved to be invaluable when, in 1990, he started his own YY Pang Racing Team.
